THOMAS HEATHERWICK'S AMAZING SEED CATHEDRAL FOR THIS YEARS SHANGHAI PAVILION IS A DESERVEDLY MUCH POSTED PROJECT. THE INCREDIBLE CONCEPT BEHIND THE DESIGN IS AS FASCINATING AS ITS OUTCOME. THE PAVILLION IS TO SHOWCASE THE WORK OF THE ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDENS IN KEW. THE HUMBLE SEED IS ELEVATED TO PRECIOUS JEWEL STATUS, WITH A SEED EMBEDDED INTO THE END OF THE 60 000 RODS THAT FORM THE HEDGEHOG LIKE STRUCTURE. THE RODS ALSO ACTS AS OPTICAL FIBRES PROVIDING THE ONLY SOURCE OF LIGHT INTO THE PAVILLION. READ MORE ON HEATHERWICK'S SITE...
